SET 4
A set of 3 miniature vessels from Santa Maria Tavehua, Oaxaca, Mexico made by local women in a community of traditional clay artisans.
These pieces were sourced from one of the most remote pottery communities left in the country, which usually specialises in large water holding vessels.
Traditional functional forms of the community have been recreated in miniature, creating these display pieces which preserve the tradition and process despite being purely decorative.
These pieces are made in the palm of the hand with the delicate details such as handles added afterwards. The pieces are then slip finished and burnished with a stone, giving them a warm glow. Finally, they are surface fired on a bed of pinecones, which results in subtle fire licks to the body of some of the vessels.
Height: varied, approximately 7cm each
These pieces have been sourced exclusively for Mantel in collaboration with Terra Ancestral.
Care: gently clean the surface with a damp sponge or cloth only, do not submerge in water.
This is an artisan made item and bears marks of the maker's hand and unique handcrafted process. Any marks, cracks or fire licks on the surface are inherent to this process and not a fault.
